Uniform Personalisation: Which option is best?

Uniform Personalisation: Which option is best?

7th Jul 2022

No doubt you, or someone in your workplace, have put a lot of time and effort into the branding of your business. From before the conception of your logo, there was an essence, a ‘feel’ that you wanted to convey. It said “we are about this. We stand for this.”

In a wide range of industries, particularly those such as Health and Aged Care, Education and Emergency Services, branding is what instantaneously builds trust and ease.

Nowhere is this more important, than on a uniform!

From a nurses’ scrubs, a doctor’s lab coat or university hoodie, uniform branding creates a sense of unity, professionalism and camaraderie.

This is why it’s important to get uniform branding right, so that it can be an ally that supports your team and those you serve.

So with the myriad of personalized branding options out there, how do you know which one is the best choice for you and your team?

Let’s break it down.

Embroidery:

Embroidery is a great option if you need a long-lasting and durable finish on frequently-washed garments such as lab coats and scrubs. Great for logos and a simple and cost-effective option for adding your name, title, initials or even an emoji.

Embroidery delivers a professional finish every time and is well suited to most types of uniforms. The beauty of embroidery is that it is quick, affordable and it lasts!

If you only need one item personalised, embroidery is a good choice as there are generally low to no minimum order quantities required. You do need to keep in mind that there is generally a logo set-up fee on the first garment but this is a one-off fee. Therefore, it’s more cost-effective to embroider a larger number of items. A low-cost option is just to get text embroidered for your name and title. You can use different coloured threads or even add an emoji icon to jazz things up!

Heat Sealing

For logos or designs with intricate detail, heat sealing (otherwise known as 'heat transfer') can be a suitable and cost-effective option. It’s also highly durable for workwear and polycotton garments, making it a superior choice over other branding methods.

Heat seal transfers are highly durable, perfect for workwear and safety clothing that undergo frequent wash-and-wear. Heat sealing is also a great option for large or more complex logos and graphics with 3 or more colours.

Heat sealing can be a cost-effective option however if you are looking to personalise a large number of items or have a logo or graphic with up to five colours, embroidery or screen printing may be better options for you.

Screen Printing

If you’re looking to make a statement with bold or large graphics, screen printing might be the best choice for you.

Screen printing is an effective way to boldly brand your uniform with large or detailed prints with one or two colours. Screen printing can also be applied over seams or pockets, giving more flexibility with print placement. The best fabrics for screen printing are generally natural fibres, such as cotton, silk and linen. Avoid polyester and synthetic fabrics such as polyester, acrylics and rayon.

Screen printing can be a cost-effective option when buying in bulk or for a large team. If you are looking to personalise only a few items, embroidery or heat sealing may be better options for you.
